Successful Beta Test

November 28th, 2009

The 2009 Chicago Dragon Boat Race for literacy is a multi-cultural event where people from all walks of life gather at the Ping Tom Memorial Park to enjoy races, music, fun and friends. This race was the perfect opportunity for us to test our SmartEvents™ application.

Lygase placed a series of tags that were color coded for men, women, kids and seniors and incentivized the crowd to wear the tags for a chance to win a cash prize of US $50. This allowed Lygase to be able to track time that each attendee had spent in various locations of the park that the sensor technology was setup. There were a number of readers (antenna) placed around the park, as people walked through the park their signal was being picked up by the reader that was within read range (30ft). Areas that were monitored included; entrance, registration, canopy, river-walk, playground, etc.

The data that we collected from our field test showed that we were accurately able to determine the dwell time of all wearing tags. It was interesting to analyze the data to determine the number of people at different times of the day who were under the canopy listening to the band, how long the kids and moms stayed at the playground and time spent at all the other locations. With the data that we obtained, we were able to generate meaningful analytic reports in the form of pie charts, bar charts and table charts.

Since then, we have added to our product offering and have plans to do our first SmartEvent™ live in Orlando, FL for a large trade show in April 2010!

Lygase Consulting, LLC is a Wheeling, IL based business intelligence solutions provider that leverages sensor based technologies such as RFID, UWB, Wi-Fi and Zigbee. Our background is in creating data warehouses and business intelligence reports. Having said that, we were wondering “What’s the future of tracking technologies as it pertains to collecting data?”  We thought, “Understanding the behavior of moving objects (i.e., people and assets) over time would be interesting and provide value”. What better place to test this hypothesis than at a trade show where people of various interests come to observe an exhibitor’s latest products or services. Events are very well organized, but there isn’t an automated system to monitor the flow of visitors and their interests on the show floor.

EUREKA!! It hit us, it made sense that if we understood where the traffic moved, we would be in a position to capture greater leads and introduce targeted advertising methods which would provide a greater value to the venue, event organizer and also the exhibitors by capturing and analyzing real-time traffic movement. We understand that currently there is no quantifiable method to understand the ROI from an exhibitor’s perspective. But there is more! We have something in it for the attendee as well. By understanding the attendees’ interests, we are now in a position to help exhibitors generate more traffic to their booths.  Lygase SmartEvents™ application is a perfect solution to monitor attendee behavior in real-time.

After some investigation, and conversations with multiple venue owners, event organizers and exhibitors, we verified a problem to solve.  The complete idea behind the Lygase SmartEvents™ application is to deliver the Event management industry an efficient automatic monitoring system where no human intervention is required. So, stay tuned and look for us at your next event or simply drop us an email and let us know why we should be at your next event!
