Research and Development

Lygase believes "If you can think it, we can build it." This is the lab where ideas for implementing RFID solutions are designed as a proof of concept. Tags and readers are imported from various manufactures and applications are designed, developed and tested. Lygase envisions an RFID solution center focused on research and development of middleware using tags and readers. The goal is to help businesses and industries test and pilot RFID, Wi-Fi, mobile and GPS systems before implementing them, full-scale, into their operations.

The Lygase R&D center provides users with many technological advantages. They can assess the technical potential of RFID technology, calculate their cost effectiveness under field conditions and conduct customized tests; both are done in the lab to develop and produce training scenarios. From our clients’ perspective, no investments need to be made in the RFID technology at the initial stage. If the test operation yields positive results, then the RFID technology can be integrated in real operations that will be specifically designed and customized for our clients unique needs. Lygase will also offer customers the possibility of gathering information on how to support different business processes with RFID technology and how to integrate these solutions with their existing IT architecture.

The test lab will serve as a development environment for small-scale, controlled testing. Equipment that requires evaluation and testing include:

  • Tags and labels
  • Readers and antenna arrays
  • Network Infrastructure (RFID, Wi-Fi, mobile and GPS)
  • Middleware for data management and device administration
  • Mapping software Simulation software for impact analysis – the impact analysis needs to estimate the annual labor cost and savings, compared to the cost of deployment, effective cycle times and throughput for the process will also be evaluated to ensure they meet client requirements.
  • Simulation software for impact analysis Mapping software - Allows (floor plan) site to become digitally mapped for real time monitoring applications

Lab testing will be used to evaluate and test the following:

  • Tags and label choices, cost and availability
  • Label placement options and tolerances
  • Tag encoding and application methods
  • Reader and antenna combinations
  • Benchmark read rates at various line speeds and distances
  • Intermec
  • MOJIX
  • ALIEN
  • RFID4u
  • INSYNC
  • Motorola
  • Impinj
  • ThingMagic
